Our current bus lane is used to drop off and pick up students before and after school. It is also our primary loading and unloading point for trips, the bus to State Fair Community College each day and it is one of our two primary entry points for major events such as the week-long Tipton basketball tournament, music events, and graduation.
It seems extravagant at first to put up a canopy covering the sidewalk loading and unloading area, but we can gain energy savings as well and realize a win-win! The canopy will be designed to capture solar energy and defray our electrical costs and mitigate price hikes AND protect our patrons and students as they enter the west gym entrance (Knights of Columbus side).
